Modular Adieu
Posted onAfter a few years of the joy of experimental sysnthesis of a eurorack rig, I've made the painful descision to sell off all my eurorack gear. I still enjoy the experimental jams, but it doesn't fit into my time budget relative to all my other creative pursuits and other obligations.
I've already started sharing my list around to trusted small Discords and have sold a lot already. I am keeping a running list of modules and approximate prices on this sheet, as I get organized and finish calibrating, building or repairing some backlogged projects:
My list of available eurorack modules and other gear here
And don't miss the sequencers, cases and other gear on a separate tab.
Pricing should be below recent Reverb "low" sold prices. Feel free to make offers. The more you buy, the more generous I am likely to be with discounts. Locally, I prefer cash or Venmo, but Paypal or Zelle are fine. If you are not local and require shipping, I prefer PayPal G&S w/ the fee, shipping cost TBD.
I can prioritize repair/testing/calibration of modules marked as needing those if you are interested in something flagged as needing one of the above.
As I get these more organized, I'll be listing more widely, but scaling up through more trusted communities first. Find me on Discord (@sstrudeau) or my personal email (scott DOT trudeau AT gmail DOT com).
Trades #
I'm not super interested in trades but the kinds of things that may be enticing to me are MPE compatible desktop synths (ASM Hydrasynth or Leviasynth, Erica Synths Steampipe, Waldorf Protein, Modal Argon or Cobalt, etc), or end-of-chain and character/saturation pedals like nice compressors/limiters/preamps (Endorphines Golden Master or Ghost, JHS Colour Box, Chroma Console, etc); or a Erica Synths Perkons because it looks like fun to play with, or weird experimental stuff like Soma Labs stuff.
Pitches #
Here are some pitches for modules and devices currently on the list:
I'm out of ideas, give me some new ones #
Hard to go wrong with the Pet Rock ($25), which generates rhythms based on the current phase of the moon. Or give shift-register based sequence generation a spin with the 2HP TM ($45), a compact lockable random sequence generator inspired by the Music Thing Modular "Turing Machine." (Great for generating random melodies but also fun to plug into things like filter cutoffs or CV inputs for controlled chaos). Or a Pachinko (Marbles Clone) ($120) for an alternative take of controlled chaos.
Nevermind the controled chaos, real chaos only please #
The ZLOB Entropy ($75) gives you multiple sources of noise and a sample-and-hold to pin it down. Or go with the more classic Barton Circuits Dual LFO with Sample and Hold. Or pretend your rack is the dashboard of your 2000 Dodge Neon and drop in an MP3 Player/FM radio as a noise source (and handy USB port) with the Tesseract Low Coast ($20).
Tune me in #
Take that chaos and make it sound pretty with a Pico Quant ($80) or Sonic Potions Penrose ($90).
I want control! #
Tired of reaching in between cables to turn knobs to control parameters? Add a Michigan Synth Works F8R which can do positive (+5V or +10V) or bipolar (-5V - +5V) CV on nice, easy to manage faders. Or get truly hands on with the passive TP8 from XODES ($15) or just add a big honking button with a Winterbloom Big Honking Button ($50).
I just wanna get weird #
Pet Rock not weird enough? Nothing weirder than the Drum Kastle ($80 - includes a chip to convert it to a Kastle synth), based on the Bastl Kastle Drum standalone device, in Eurorack form. Or check out a like-new QU-Bit Prism ($140) for all kinds of weird, creative signal processing. Or mangle and wrangle your signals with Dreadbox Utopia ($50).
I want to meet some beats #
The module I've most debated keeping is the Modbap Trinity (included sidecar pod case) ($350). Three voice drum synthesizer with multiple engines and storable presets for all your percussive needs. Pair it with a Befaco Kickall ($100) to take over kick duties and free up the Trinity for the more interesting stuff.
Take me to outer space #
Make your dry sounds wet with some effects. Get wistful with the Dreadbox Nostalgia ($50) analog delay, get your head in the clouds with (insert clouds clone here) or go multiple choice with a Tiptop Z5000 ($100) for the indecesive. Or go outboard with 80s-tastic outboard FX in the Dreadbox Hypnosis Reissue ($150).
Bread and butter #
Just need the basics? Everyone needs a Pam's. This Pamela's New Workout ($150) comes with the PEXP2 expander for an extra x24 out, "run" sync out and midi out.
Dreadbox's basic modules are also great bread and butter basics. Grab a Hysteria Performance VCO ($50), Ataxia Dual Modulator ($50) and Eudemonia Mixer/Filter/VCA ($50) for a complete, colorful voice.
Swiss Army Knife #
Need a little bit of everything? Pick up my non-name micro Ornament & Crime uO_C ($100) or, if you really don't like screens, Disting mk4 ($90).
Shape my tones #
Get these special edition ST Modular/Calsytnh collab modules, a yellow MS-20 style EFI Filter and blue Clipping Cat and shout Slava Ukraini as you filter and distory your jams.
You probably already have a Doepfer Wasp ($50). Get a second one and you have a stereo filter. That's how it works, right?
And if you want to make some satisfying plonks, the Takaab 2LPG ($15) gives you two, passive low-pass gates in a tiny, tiny (and passive) package.
I want to mix it up #
After VCAs, you can really never have enough mixers. The Bastl Aikido ($160) is a compact mixer/VCA with sidechain built-in; the Roland 531 ($250) is 5 channel, performable stereo straightforward powerhouse. If you need more than that, the self-contained Cre8audio Assembler ($250) has even more channels, multiple aux sends and is very performable. Or do some creative mixing with the AI Synthesis Matrix Mixer ($40).
I'm a cheapskate #
Relive the sounds of your millenial youth with the dual oscillator lofi Chipz ($25). Sequence it with its matched pair Cellz. Shape it with the absolute bargain combination filter, VCA and envelope generator all built in to Mr Phil Ter ($50).
I want the kitchen sink #
You want a little bit of everything in a self contained package? Go no further. Grab a semi-modular Behringer Neutron ($175) and be satisfied that Uli isn't getting your money. Or go for the simpler, but with a sequencer, Cre8audio East Beast ($125). Or if you want a self contained modular unit that requires patching, grab the limited edition Dreadbox Dysphonia ($200).
