… at least in my case. The University of Michigan, my employer (technically), has engaged on a lengthy and expensive job classification project. The ostensible goal is to have job titles that better match market titles (less ambiguous and/or more accurate), so the U can better peg their compensation rates to market data […]

Murph posted his saga with his Ann Arbor landord. Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
If you have questions about your landlord, the MichiganTenants.org web site has a lot of good information. If you’re not a University of Michigan student and a Washtenaw County resident, they can provide assistance over […]

The Michigan Independent launched last week. The intent is something like a liberal version of the Michigan Review, funded by Campus Progress (a project of American Progress).
I sat in on one of the early meetings to see where the project would go and offer assistance if needed. I still haven’t seen a copy […]

My friend satadru says:
Imagine netnewswire lite bundled on the blue disk, with preloaded feeds for things like UM News, and the Michigan Daily.
Brilliant! First, the Daily and other U sites need rss feeds. But even five feeds would be a good start. They’d also need a Windows client. Combine this with […]

Here’s another nifty Umich tech-tip. The University recently rolled out a bundle of new anti-spam tools all available on the University SpamBusters web site. One of these tools (SpamBox, which uses the DSPAM project) relies on server-side mail filters, necessary to place caught spam into your SpamBox folder before you check your email. […]

Eric Goldberg pointed me to this U of M MacSIG How-To, which describes undergrad Jason Bruder’s UMODtoAB script to automatically import data from the University’s online directory into your Apple Address Book. While in Safari, and from the Directory entry you’re interested in, just run the script and *poof*, it’s in your addressbook. […]
