Zipping Upstate

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

We reserved a ZipCar to head upstate tomorrow. I’m going to hole up and get some work done while Lizz goes to a “dog friendly communities” conference on Saturday. Sunday we’re driving back. We’ll also get to check out the new ring on Erica’s finger.

Why I love my friends?

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

Because they’re so darn interesting. For example, on Hipsters and Urban Planning Rob writes:
…of course hipsters and urban planning go together, after all both are quintessentially middle class pursuits. The hipster is fundamentally culturally insecure and pursues an ever cooler subculture, and the urban planner is a technocrat, seeking to obtain power though their […]

Over the mountains and through Ohio…

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Lizz, Sat and I are driving out to Michigan, leaving here shortly. We’re not 100% sure of our itinerary. We may swing out to Canton on Saturday afternoon to visit Lizz’s dad and grandparents. Saturday night we’ll be hanging with my family and probably most of Christmas day, as well. If […]

Peace, Baby

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

My cousin is the first of the five cousins on my Mom’s side of the family to get hitched and pregnant. A recent ultrasound caught the baby making a plea for the world s/he is about to join. S/he’ll fit right in.

Nutritional Yeast Salad Dressing

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

Gregory and Amanda both heartily recommended this recipe for salad dressing featuring nutritional yeast. I love it on my popcorn and in the occasional tofu scramble, so this sounds good to me:

Combine in a blender:

1/2 cup nut’l yeast
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup soy/tamari
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
2 T garlic

Slowly drizzle in 1 to 1-1/2 cups […]

Post Thanksgiving Update

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

By posting her planned menu, Laura inspired me to post my own Thanksgiving menu. Sat and Yulia joined Lizz and me for a southern themed turkey day in our NYC apartment. The menu:

Shallow-fried, breaded turkey cutlets (riff on this fried chicken recipe), and a pan gravy
Traditional mashed potatoes
Cranberry dipping sauce
Greens […]

Really Really

Friday, August 26th, 2005

Kevin Smokler, an Ann Arbor native whom I met at last years SXSW posts about San Francisco’s annual free garage “sale” called the Really Really Free Market. Awesome.

Road Trip!

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

Lizz has some appointments lined up in NYC (job interview, roommate meetings) on Monday in NYC, so we’re taking a road trip via Ithaca. It’ll be nice to see Erica & Chris’ new house (finally!), and hopefully other friends.
We’re planning to leave Saturday to Ithaca via Canada (Oh, Canada!), then on to NYC sometime […]

More Pranks, Please

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

Erica writes about a prank today at Cornell. Someone put a disco ball on McGraw tower. Cornell, like other schools, has a long history of campus pranks. Umich doesn’t seem to have this kind of tradition.

Sappy Cards

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

My friend Tim makes greeting cards.

Check out cards for mother — Mother’s Day is just around the corner.
