So GMail appears to be down for me this afternoon; I’m getting “error code 704″ when logging in to my primary account (other accounts on the same computer work fine). It isn’t clear who, if anyone, I can report this to, nor where I might receive a report on the status of the service. Anyone have any ideas on where to look? It was intermittent this morning, but is now entirely unavailable.

So please, don’t be offended if I do not reply to you or do not engage you in a Google Chat.

Update: I found the GMail Help Center, which pointed me to this suggestion, which didn’t fix the problem (I’d already tried logging in with a clean browser).

Update 2: I contacted the technical support team after running through an infinite loop in their support system. I’m receiving a new error now: “We’re sorry, but Gmail is temporarily unavailable. We’re currently working to fix the problem — please try logging in to your account in a few minutes.”

Update 3: Didn’t get a response from Google, but mail is back up. Looks like I didn’t get any mail today, which seems odd, since I usually at least get some random list mail and random machine generated mail in six hours.

Update 4: Aaaand, it’s down again after less than two hours up…

Update 5: It’s been back up mostly, with only short and periodic outages… Get what you pay for?
