Cheap Movies in NYC?!

One thing I was well braced for upon moving to NYC was the high price of movie tickets. Typical cinema admission is $10.75 and matinees aren’t much cheaper, which is why I got giddee when I saw the New York Times’ “Arts & Leisure Weekend” included $5 admission to Loews on 34th St. from Jan. 5-9. $5 movie tickets! What is this? 1985? Awesome. Especially because there are movies out I actually want to see.

Not only that, but theater tickets are buy-one-get-one-free (Avenue Q, which I’d like to see, is discounted only for a single show), as are some museum admissions. This is quite a treat coming after the busy holiday season and a savvy way to keep people spending money in what must be a tourism lull post holiday.
