Web frameworks, applications and sites
Dave Heinemeier Hansson (of Ruby on Rails fame) and Adrian Holovaty (of Django, Lawrence.com and Chicago Crime Map fame) had a little debate about the merits of their web framworks Rails and Django. One observation they make is that Rails is targetted as a platform for building web applications (more business logic) while Django takes a slightly higher cut and positions itself for web sites. This makes sense, since Rails is rooted in web applications like Basecamp and Django began as a framework to publish a newspaper web site. I made this same observation comparing Rails to Plone.
