Home Run?
We finally landed a new pad, way up on the Upper West Side in Manhattan Valley. It’s further from the trains and not in quite as posh a neighborhood as the two apartments we missed out on, but it’s a short commute for Lizz, and close to Central Park. The neighborhood is sandwiched between Columbia University, Harlem, and the more upscale parts of the Upper West Side. A border land that was in recent history “crack central,” but has cleaned up significantly in the recent decade. It’s a good price, too — the landlord seems like a normal, rational person, who isdown with the dog, and the deal is by-owner (no brokers, thank you Craigslist). As a bonus, it’s rent stabilized so if we decide we like it, rent’s not gonna go through the roof on us.

November 1. I need to start recruiting friends to help. Or our future landlord said he could recommend a place that hires out day laborers (mostly hardworking Mexicans, he says) if all our friends are too hung over from Halloween or at work on that Tuesday…

I’d offer to take a road trip and help, but I’ll be in beer school!

Great news; nice place for the pooch, too, what with all those parks nearby.
