Workin’ Late, Pistons and AJAX

I’m working entirely too late tonight to get a grant application out the door tomorrow. Tonight is game seven in the Pistons/Spurs playoffs. I can hear the cheers from the bars on South U from my office, reminding me that I’m missing a good time over at Vinh’s. They’re projecting the game onto a giant wall in his parking lot and have ordered a keg for the occasion.

I googled up “basketball scores” which landed me on ESPN’s scoreboard, which turns out to be a nifty little AJAX application. For the non-geeks, that pretty much means the page updates itself as the game goes on. When I hear the crowd roar, I know to look at the scoreboard to see what happened — it’s a few seconds behind real time, including a summary of the most recent score (e.g., “T. Duncan made 2-pt dunk. Assisted by B. Barry.”). I’m not huge into basketball, but there’s enough geek factor here to get me excited.

Ok, back to work. I may sleep on my office couch tonight…
