Google Adds Ratings

This slashdot post points out that Google has added movie times and reviews when you search on a movie title, for example. The reviews appear to be aggregated in a Google News sort of way, pulled from various reputable online sources. I’m not sure how they’re getting the “out of five star” ratings from each article.

The foodie in me wondered if they’d started doing this for restaurants, as well. I searched for Tuptim (my favorite Ann Arbor thai restaurant) and saw that they are including reviews from Dine.com and restaurant information from ChefMoz.org, two sites I’d not been aware of.

Google has definitely been focusing on the hyperlocal. Their acquisition of DodgeBall, development of Google Local and the surprisingly flexbile Google Maps are all pointing in this direction. I’m terribly interested in this phenomenon and excited to see where Google goes with it.

Tuptim’s totally in Ypsi Township (or is it Pittsfield?), not Ann Arbor. Minor point. I still need to go there, though.
