Ingo! Umich Mail Filtering Tip

Here’s another nifty Umich tech-tip. The University recently rolled out a bundle of new anti-spam tools all available on the University SpamBusters web site. One of these tools (SpamBox, which uses the DSPAM project) relies on server-side mail filters, necessary to place caught spam into your SpamBox folder before you check your email. This means it’s possible to use these server-side mail filters to prefilter your mail before you download it. To folks who use email from many different computers, the utility of this should be obvious. To set up filters, log in to mail.umich.edu, and then follow this super-secret link to get to the filter configuration tool, Ingo. This is not yet an official service (they expect to launch this officially in May), so use at your own risk (i.e., if you have problems, leave 4-HELP alone!).
